Windows 10? What is it?
Windows 10 is the next operating system to be launched by Microsoft.
The launch date for the UK is 29th July 2015. There will be 7 versions of Windows 10.
These include:
- Windows 10 Home
- Windows 10 Pro
- Windows 10 Enterprise
- Windows 10 Education
- Windows 10 Mobile
- Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise
- Windows 10 IoT Core
The operating system is designed to provide a familiar interface when moving between devices such as, desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones and is optimized for ?touch? displays and cloud services.
How much will it cost?
IT?S FREE! (For a limited period)
Well it will be to all Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 users for the first year! So if you have a fully licensed copy of either operating system you will be able to upgrade for free. If you decide not to upgrade within the 1st year there will be an, as yet, unconfirmed purchase fee.
How can I get it for free?
Over the coming weeks, eligible computers for the free upgrade will begin to see an invitation to register for Windows 10 appearing in the taskbar near the notification area, as shown below.
Clicking the invite will open a wizard which by following the on screen prompts allows you to reserve your upgrade ready for the release date (29 July 2015). The invites are being staggered and you may already have one, if not, don?t worry it will appear soon. (For the invite to appear you must have an eligible existing installation of Windows 7 or 8.1).
Come the 29th of July and weeks following, having reserved the update,
The big question is should you register or upgrade?
What should I do?
We are not saying don?t change, as this incarnation of Windows is looking very promising??
But before acting, check to see how the new operating system will affect your business critical applications. Changes have been made to the operating system that may cause certain applications to behave in an unexpected way. You may find that functions and features previously available in Windows 7 and 8 are removed.
Remember, you do have a year to decide if you wish to take up this free offer.
